SUSTAINABILITY

We believe that protecting our planet today ensures a healthier tomorrow

Our culture embraces sustainability, and we understand that the choices we make have a genuine impact on the people and the environment around us. To that end we are constantly reviewing and introducing new methods of production and investing in the latest technology to meet standards of excellence that improve our eco credentials, from manufacturing higher quality socks using the finest materials and fighting ‘fast fashion’, to offering anti-bacterial washing treatments which makes socks more hygienic – meaning they need less frequent washing and are longer-lasting, to installing solar panels to supplement energy requirements, to the utilisation of recycled, recyclable and biodegradable packaging.

Sadly, it’s no secret that the fashion industry causes a lot of pollution and wasted yarns: from brands disposing of their unsold stock by shredding and dumping, to toxic pollutants entering our rivers. At Exceptio we recognise our responsibilities go beyond providing customers with socks that offer excellent quality, high design and great value, and as a means to combat the fashion industries conduct we have developed our eco-friendly upcycled Hydrocycled® cotton which allow fabrics to be diverted from landfills and reduces the need for virgin materials to be harvested.

Our steps to improve the industry

FIGHTING FAST FASHION

Fast fashion items are low quality and/or limited durability that are mass produced in order to be ready for sale before the "micro-trend" is over. At Exceptio we understand the importance of quality and our socks are made to last; combining functionality with contemporary trends in either classic or innovative styles we take pride in delivering a fit for purpose product.

The manufacturing sector is one of the most energy intensive in the UK. Exceptio believes that it is important to minimise environmental impact. To initiate this, more than 20%, on average, of our energy demands in both our UK and Portuguese factories is supplemented by solar panels, and, to reduce energy consumption further, our knitting machines are the latest state-of-the-art Green certified models, with more accurate production producing less waste.

SOLAR SUPPLEMENTED ENERGY AND GREEN CERTIFIED MACHINERY

You can rest assured that your brand is in safe hands as all of our yarns, the Hydrocycled base yarn and all yarns used for patterning details, and indeed all elements of our production are completely free of harmful chemicals and certified by OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100. This ensures our socks meet the highest environmental and social responsibility standards, to protect us and our planet.

ALL YARNS USED ARE OEKO-TEX®STANDARD 100

is an anti-bacterial treatment that can be embedded into our yarns to control the growth of micro-organisms. Pureco® keeps fabrics feeling cleaner and fresher for longer, reducing the need for washing, in turn increasing the product lifespan.
